So, I've been finding tools that multitask. I'm hoping to cut down on the amount of stuff I'm lugging around in my backpack by having gear that does double (or triple) duty.

What does the BioLite CampStove 2+ do?
The main thing is spinning up an efficient campfire with minimal fuss. A grill attachment lets you cook your meals, and a kettle handles your morning coffee.
That's not the fun part though.
The fun part is you can charge your phone with fire.
The generator on the back uses the heat from the fire to charge a built-in battery.
I was blown away when I heard about it, then blown away again when I tried it myself.
A standard USB-A port lets you connect whatever you want to the BioLite CampStove 2+. Plug in your phone or camera or whatever and recharge!
What's really nice about this thing is that it also uses that power to fan the flames of your fire. This airflow makes a sweet-looking fire vortex that doesn't emit any smoke.

Fire It Up
Before anything else, my campstove has to be able to start a fire painlessly. If you've spent any time trying to start a fire, you'll know that airflow is the biggest challenge.
Too much wind, and your fire will get blown out before it has a chance to get going. Too little, and you'll just have some embers.
This is what I love about the BioLite CampStove 2+. The generator creates a perfect level of airflow for the size of the fire.
It has a probe that figures out how strong your fire is, and adjusts the fan speed accordingly. Just a little bit of air to get it started, then full blast once it's roaring. Then I just have to keep it fed with sticks from around the campsite.
It's so easy to get going. From now on, I want every campfire I have to be out of the BioLite CampStove 2+.

Get Cooking
I like to take over cooking duties when I'm camping just so I can play with the portable grill. Just pop out the two legs, put it on top of the BioLite CampStove 2+, and I'm good to go. A clever little chimney flap lets me keep fueling the fire.
There's enough room on this grill to cook something for everybody. I've done burgers on this thing, shish kebabs, you name it. Best of all, the grill is designed to spread flames evenly for a consistent cooking time.
It's not just at night I like to handle the campfire. Every morning at camp I've got the BioLite KettlePot boiling away. It comes with a French press so I can surprise my friends with something a little better than instant coffee when they get out of their tents.

Off-Grid Power
When I'm out on the trail, I'm taking lots of pictures. This puts a dent in my battery, of course. Sure, I bring along a backup battery, but that's more weight to haul around.
Once we light up the fire every night, the CampStove 2+ can keep my phone fully juiced. That's handy for more than just my photo ops!
The 3,200 mAh battery also keeps my phone going in case my camping trip goes sideways. If I'm lost, I'll need to be able to check my GPS. If someone gets hurt, I need to be able to make a call. That peace of mind is invaluable.
It's not just phones, either! I've got a buddy who likes to bring along his drone to get some sweet landscape shots (assuming he doesn't crash the thing). It's nice that I can help keep his batteries going with the CampStove 2+ for another day of flying.

There's Nothing Like It
As much as I shop around for alternatives, there's really nothing like the BioLite CampStove 2+. You can't find something that'll handle starting your fires, cooking your meals, and charging your phone while you're in the great outdoors.
It's in a class of its own.
So of course the BioLite CampStove 2+ is the first thing that goes into my pack! It's able to do triple-duty at the campsite, saving me room and worry. Even if I only manage a few trips this summer, I can't wait to bust this one out and show my friends.

Been using this stove for camping and hikes. It works great and runs perfectly on small sticks you can find lying around. Have recommended it to several friends, who are now happy owners.

A stove a person can depend on in a blizzard — using pine cones and little chunks of wood to cook sustenance, keep warm and power phone counts for a lot!

I got this for Christmas, and promptly went on a 10 day backpacking trip. As a Type 1 Diabetic with a rechargeable insulin pump, a power source is always a concern. Now I no longer have to feel restricted or panicked about taking extended trips! It charged my pump from 15% to 95% in about an hour. I just had to keep the fire burning hot!
